We are so looking forwards to Melvo Baptitse Headlining our first Summer Show on the Binks Yard Terrace, 4th of May 2024, Revenge of the Disco! Recently Defected announced the promotion of Melvo Baptiste to Director Of Music, Glitterbox, overseeing the label’s recordings schedule, talent and curation across its global repertoire of events into 2024 and beyond.
“I am delighted to announce Melvo Baptiste's promotion to Director Of Music, Glitterbox. Melvo has played a pivotal role in shaping the label’s musical landscape; his passion, and profound understanding of our core values have made him a cornerstone of its success. As we move forward, I am confident that Melvo's visionary leadership will guide Glitterbox to new heights, reinforcing our commitment showcasing the very best music and talent.” – Wez Saunders, Defected
A natural progression to his years spent presenting and curating Glitterbox’s much-loved radio show, powering dancefloors across the globe as one of the brand’s headline acts, Melvo steps into his new role after seven years at Defected as part of the A&R team. An authoritative voice within dance music, his musical expertise and knowledge of the label will see its evolution into 2024, underpinned by the brand’s core values.
Born into a family of record collectors and music enthusiasts, Melvo’s musical upbringing consisted of soul, rare groove, funk, and disco, heavily inspired by his uncle Norman Jay’s Sunday nights on BBC Radio and seminal Good Times Sound System at Notting Hill Carnival. His time on Mi Soul alongside the likes of Kiss FM founder Gordon Mac and the late Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson marked the start of his broadcasting career, which under the close mentorship of Defected and Glitterbox founder Simon Dunmore led to his role as host of Glitterbox Radio.
“My musical journey, and mentorship from some of the scene’s legendary figures has led me here and I am deeply honoured to start my next chapter overseeing the brand. Glitterbox is not just a label; it's a legacy, I am committed to upholding its essence and its core principles will always remain the same.” – Melvo Baptiste, Glitterbox
A well-deserved acknowledgement of his unwavering passion for music and the development of artists, Melvo’s appointment comes as part of family company Defected’s recruitment drive – a strategy backed by new CEO Wez Saunders and his ambitious plans for Defected’s new phase of business.
Outside of his new role, Melvo will continue to run his imprint The Remedy Project which since its inception in 2021 has become a musical home for the genre-blending and forward-thinking. Furthering his commitment to championing fresh, diverse talent, The Remedy Project will continue to grow and deliver records from its roster of exciting acts which so far has included the likes of Atjazz, Omar, Joss Stone, Kaidi Tatham, T. Williams, Makèz, Close Counters, and Sio.
